Jimbo,
Well, it was not the best weekend for flying, Saturday was out, Sunday was
clear and cold and a terrible cross wind (15 to 20 out of the west).
But let not be said that the "DieHard Club" (David Huff, Mike Kruger, Mike
Krammer, Jeff Milam, Chris Lay, Jeff Layman, and myself) were out there
trying to keep the reputation of the WTRC club,
"WE FLY EVERY WEEKEND".
When
I got to the field David Huff was out there making tracks
in the snow with his Avistar. David is still showing us how to land a
Avistar, perfect landings in a strong cross wind (except maybe for that one
foray off the field)
Mike Krammer came out with his new 40 size Cap 232 with OS 46 FX. Jeff
Layman took it up for the first time and trimmed it out (needed very
little).
Mike flew it from then on, flew and landed great
(big jump
from an Avistar
to Cap 232).
I want to give a big heads-up to Chris Lay, he has been working trying to
his new Giles 202 in the air for the past two or three weekends.
He has had fuel line problems, trouble-shot these problems and repaired
them. He has showed great maturity (maybe with just a little help from Donnie) in
not
flying that plane until it was ready. Jeff Layman took his Giles up for the
first time today and according to Jeff needed no trim and Chris landed it on
the
first flight. Great job Chris!!!!!!!!!
I guess the highlight of the day was Brent Young. Brent is from Grand
Rapids, MI. He showed up at the field today asked if he could fly his
helicopters.
Boy were we in for a treat, I did not realize that a RC helicopter could do
the things this guy made them do. Inverted hover, inside loops, outside
loops,
tail first loops both inside and outside, four point rolls, snap rolls,
knife edges, and he could do all these manuvers either inverted or upright. He
held
everbody's attention while he was flying. I bet the eight or nine of us
watching looked pretty silly looking up in the air with our jaws at our
knees.
And to top it all off even though he is a Michigan "YANKEE" he is a darn
nice guy. Brent is going to be in Jackson for the next month, so everybody
needs to see this guy fly.
Maybe it will be better flying weather next weekend.
Later,
Jimmy
I'd like to thank Jimmy Gibson for his great pictures and coments of Sunday's activities.
